The Brain Behind the City Room →
Media Bistro has an interview with Sewell Chan, bureau chief of the New York Times’ excellent City Room blog. If you haven’t checked out City Room yet, it’s a terrific combination of breaking news, features, interactive Q&As and links, all about New York City. Fascinating stuff, even for those of us who don’t live in the Big Apple. L.A. Now could learn a few things.
Pau Has a Blog →
Did anyone else know Pau is blogging for the L.A. Times? (Let’s see if he sticks around longer than Kareem.) There’s a great picture of him shopping for groceries (at what I can only hope is a Ralphs) in his first post.
While we’re on the subject, here’s Lamar’s Twitter page.

John Fante’s Legacy* →
Tomorrow is the 100th anniversary of John Fante’s birth. Fante was the author of Ask the Dust, a guy who really got Los Angeles, a hero to Bukowski and a hell of a writer. There’s a Zócalo panel on him at the Hammer tonight and a celebration at the King Eddy Saloon tomorrow night. (Previously on IRB)
*Update: More at LAT, UCLA and Zócalo (all via LAO).
Why check a rumor? Then it’s no longer a rumor.

Warhol's First DVD: Screen Tests →
13 Most Beautiful … Songs for Andy Warhol’s Screen Tests, the first authorized Warhol DVD, is due out Tuesday. As the title suggests, it contains 13 of Warhol’s nearly 500 screen tests. They can be played with or without music by Dean Wareham and Britta Phillips. Some neat trivia:
Each test lasted as long as a single 100-foot roll of film. Each was shot at 24 frames per second and...
