In Praise of the Musso and Frank Breakfast
Musso and Frank Grill is one of my favorite restaurants in Los Angeles. You simply can’t beat the ambiance: the long wooden bar, the lifelong waiters, the coat hooks at every table, the perpetual darkness. The ghosts of old Hollywood are still here, waiting for you to sidle up to the bar and order a martini.
While primarily known as a chop house, Musso also serves a fine breakfast. Along with the usual bacon, eggs and potatoes, they offer flannel cakes: crepe-like buckwheat pancakes thin as a dime and big as a plate. I had some yesterday; they are excellent.
The restaurant opens at 11 a.m., the perfect hour for a leisurely breakfast and an early cocktail. Have a nice meal, then step out of the darkness and into the light of another beautiful day in Hollywood.
