City Council Hipster Showdown: LaBonge vs. Garcetti

USC’s Neon Tommy recently interviewed City Councilman Tom LaBonge and City Council President Eric Garcetti. Both are good reads. LaBonge, for example, shares his thoughts on fixed-gear bikes, and Garcetti explains what a good diner means to him.

My favorite part, though, is the discussion of who represents more hipsters. LaBonge’s Council District 4 covers swaths of Los Feliz, Hollywood, Wilshire Center and the Miracle Mile, while Garcetti represents CD13, which includes Echo Park, Silver Lake and Atwater Village. The consensus is that Garcetti is the winner; he calls CD13 “hipster central.” LaBonge also says, “Eric is more of a hipster than I am. Though I could talk you up if you wanted me to.” Garcetti denies being a hipster but says he represents them proudly.
