If you haven’t heard, Tina Brown (ex of Vanity Fair and The New Yorker) has a new project: The Daily Beast. It’s an online aggregator of high and low culture with the slogan “Read This, Skip That.” There are some other big names involved, including backer Barry Diller and a HuffPo-like lineup of celebrity contributors. But is there room for a bit more signal among all the noise out there on the Web?
In greeting readers on Monday, Ms. Brown used the site to ask and answer an obvious question at a time of towering informational clutter: “Why should I visit you when there’s already Slate/Drudge/Huffington Post/TPM/Google News and every other magazine and newspaper?”Naturally. Also interesting: no ads for the time being. More? Here’s a Q&A with Brown on the DB site.
Her answer: “Sensibility, darling.”
